... if you get spam with the subject line "Organize him present" and your first thought is "Yeah, but Mr. Shine?  He diamond."²

[1]  Of course, really we all know there is no such thing as too much Terry Pratchett.³

[2]  When I mentioned it, [livejournal.com profile] cymrullewes' response was "Isn't he an Omnian missionary?"

[3]  This footnote is just here for reasons of tradition.

And you've been reading too much James Joyce (specifically, Finnegans Wake) if you're reading a real-estate sale contract, hit something you don't understand, and automatically read it backwards to see if it makes sense that way.

That actually happened to a friend of mine.

I've never actually read Finnegan's Wake, yet. Some day I must correct this.

a word of advice re: Finnegan.

Do not attempt to read it as sense-making literature. Read it for the hyperintellectual games-playing and babble that it is, and it'll be much easier.

It's amazing gibberish, that occasionally lapses into lucidity.

Turns out I can get fully logged in from vorlon, but not from babylon5. Haven't yet figured out why. This is despite, from babylon5, logging out of LJ; manually purging all livejournal.com cookies; clearing livejournal.com cookie permissions; restarting firefox; re-allowing cookies for livejournal.com; logging back in. I still end up "half logged in"; my cookie says I'm logged in, LJ says I've successfully logged in, but I can't actually access anything that requires login and can't comment except anonymously.

Strange, that. I'd have thought what you did would re-set the thing completely.

BTW, how did you do the Vetinari icon?

The Gimp is my friend. :)

I'll have to see what I can do with it on Linux, then. My version of Photoshop won't do the blinkie stuff.

I should, I suppose, upgrade. Wish Adobe made it in a Linux config.

It's pretty easy in the Gimp. Create transparent layers over your background, add to them as you need, assemble composite frames, have Gimp optimize them, set frame delays if needed, convert to indexed color, save as GIF.

Thanks. Sounds as if it has similar functionality to Photoshop.
