Looks like a vote for Obama-Biden is a vote for the RIAA.  Dear Senator Joe also thinks that there's no such thing as too much wiretapping, and that if you use encryption you should have to surrender the keys upon demand; and his Omnibus Counterterrorism Act of 1995 laid the groundwork for the much-reviled PATRIOT Act and has co-written bills with him.

Heck, Dianne Feinstein likes him.  That should be enough of a counter-recommendation for anyone.

As you know, I lived in Delaware for over a decade. (a dozen years, or fifteen, depending on whether you count time as a full-time college student or years of having a driver's license, public library card, and other tangible evidence of residency there.)

I was not enthused when I found out that this man was going to be Obama's pick for VP.

CNN played back some choice condescending comments he made about guns back during the Youtube debates. We has positively preening himself about his role ion the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994.

I guess it's time to admit I'm a Libertarian. A liberal Libertarian, but still...

I realized some years ago the best way to attract a lot of government attention nowadays is just to quote the Federalist Papers and advocate those same ideals the authors did.

About three seconds later I realized what that said about America.

I’m sentimental, if you know what I mean —
I love the country, but I can’t stand the Scene.
And I’m neither Left nor Right
I’m just staying home tonight
Getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I am stubborn as those garbage bags which Time cannot decay
I’m junk, but I’m still holding up my little wild bouquet —
Democracy is coming… to the U.S.A.!

Leonard Cohen, Democracy

I think Democracy ought to be the song of our discontent this election season. I’ve yet to hear anything as honest, as bleak, and yet as hopeful, about the entire American Experiment.

I only wish I could share in its optimism.

Thank you for that reply.

"A republic, if you can keep it."

It is beginning to look like both major party candidates are poor choices when it comes to privacy and personal property. That erodes the basis of our liberal form of government. In short, we can't keep it Ben.

I had mixed feelings about Obama before this bit. Also towards our senate-wannabe running against Collins. Neither seems to have read the Constitution with much attention to detail. Nor have they studied much economics . . .

Don't wanna vote for the other guys, either.

"No matter who you voted for, the Government won."

"No matter who you voted for, the Government won."

Goddamn right. Well put.

I didn't invent it -- attributed to British anarchists. Originally phrased "No matter who you voted for, the Government got in."

Well, yeah, but so is McCain. And he's anti-abortion, anti-habeaus-corpus, and wants to lose more wars, too. May not be someone to vote for this election, but sure is someone to vote against.

You have to be careful listing out the reasons to vote again McCain and Obama...there's a limited number of bits available on the webbertubes.

BTW, a bit more homework tells me that McCain has actually flipped on this issue--he used to oppose the RIAA's position, now he talks vaguely of "intellectual property" and has doubts about net neutrality. Ironically, it appears that McCain's campaign has a pattern using well-known songs without the copyright-holder's permission.

The usual pattern: One law for "us", one for everyone else....

thank you... :)

The only problem is, by the time you weed out all the ones you don't want to vote for, there's scarcely anyone left.

'scarcely'? The only time I ever voted for the guy I actually *wanted* to win was when my own name was on the ballot back in 1992.

...and really, come to think of it, I wasn't qualified for the job...
