I keep hearing people saying, thank god for this, thank god for that.  But you know what? If I actually believed that there was a god who is actually responsible for good things happening enough to deserve thanks for them, then I'd be left with no choice but to get totally mediaeval on his ass for all the bad shit that, by extension, he must be allowing to happen.

Wife and I were just discussing the subject this morning, with all the "blessed be Thou o God" references in the liturgy for last week.

Personally, I think WE are the creators that the churchies are looking for, and as such we have created all - good and bad - that occurs in our universe. Most of the bad occurs due to either deliberate suppression by those who want to "own the world," or group agreement that we need challenges and barriers to make an effective game. IMHO.

If there were a god who was responsible for all the bad stuff happening, it would be profoundly unwise to get totally medieval on his ass.

I had a thought on that subject, today. If the creationists were right, we do we have sexual reproduction? It's horribly inefficient if God has already got everything right. If we'd truly been created, why aren't we all asexual and parthenogenic?

The real argument against Intelligent Design is knees.

Not to mention the spine. We walk upright; if we were designed in the first place to do so, why do we have a spine that's clearly still optimized for locomotion on all fours?

For that matter, if we were all created in God's image, which one of us exactly does God look like? A Bantu? An Inuit? Is he Han Chinese, Indian, or Australian aboriginal? Or maybe Maori?

We're God's image as seen through a kaleidescope/prism?
