This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone:  An 18-month Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study finds that texting while driving increases crash risk by 23 times.

Last month's Car & Driver also contained an impromptu mini-study that they did, comparing driving sober to driving drunk and driving while texting. Their conclusion was basically that if you have to choose between sharing the road with a drunk driver or one who's texting, pick the drunk. You're safer.

Talking on the phone is about the same as low level, above the legal limit too much alcohol. Texting requires more thought, more looking away from the road, and more finger dexterity.

Truly, it's a bad, bad thing.

It's true that sometimes it's really good to get some info while driving. But, people can follow my example, and pull off the damn road.
