[livejournal.com profile] strega42's analysis of, and response to, Sci-Fi's next brilliant move ... er ... make that godawful trainwreck.

There's stuff in this I'd actually missed on previous readings.  It was so stupid my brain optimized the worst of the bullshit out altogether.

Well, they lost me as a viewer when I stopped watching TV all together. But this is certainly not going to give me any incentive to start watching again.

Perhaps I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but this quote:
Sci Fi has been working to branch out from being simply a linear cable network to become a hub of businesses operating in the imagination under the Sci Fi Ventures banner.
leads me to believe they just want to diversify their brand, and while they cannot trademark the term "Sci Fi", they can trademark "Syfy".

As godawful as it may be.

(Don't get me wrong, I agree completely with the rest of the analyses—both yours and [livejournal.com profile] strega42's. I'm just pointing out a reason for the name change that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.)

Today's Guardian G2 section has a piece by Lucy Mangan on the matter.

Oh, and I was amused to see the corrections LJ's spelling-checker suggested:
