About a week ago, while in the hospital, two tiny jagged shards of something yellowish-white cut their way out through my gum, sort of along the line of the jawbone right before it reaches the roof of my mouth. Starting about two days after that, there's been what felt like the edge of a tooth there, as though an extra tooth was growing out of the roof of my mouth. Today, I pulled a roughly 5mm by 3mm by 2.5mm jagged piece of what looks more than anything else like tooth dentine out of the same spot. It didn't seem to be attached to anything, and I'm reasonably certain it's not bone. It's almost as though an extra tooth started growing in a spot where there isn't supposed to be one.
Needless to say, this has me mightily puzzled. I need to see a dentist as soon as I can.

I had one of these, large, perfectly rounded, containing all the components of a tooth, but sitting behind a tooth and not fully formed.
Had to have surgery to remove it.
That said, it was big and obvious to my dentist... when was the last time you had a dental X-ray? They generally catch this sort of thing.

I just looked up odontomas, and ... I don't know. It's a possibility. I need to see the dentist anyway, having noticd some time back that I've acquired my first-ever cavity (outer face of my back upper right molar). I figure I'll just have the dentist check the whole area out when I see him.
