Check out who got picked up in Pakistan.

Note when they picked him up.

Note when they're making the announcement .... mere hours before John Kerry's acceptance speech.

Coincidence?  What do you think?  We deserved to know about this when it happened, not have it held back for cheap political grandstanding to divert attention from the DNC.

Go read the Republican Bush/Rove platform.  Think about it in relation to your political views.  How close a match is it?  How much do you agree with, and how much do you disagree with?

Now go read the Democrat Kerry/Edwards platform.  Think about it in relation to your political views.  How close a match is it?  How much do you agree with, and how much do you disagree with?

Now go read this.

Discuss.  There is no quiz, but there will be a final in November.

This short but very Dave Barry-ish anecdote is forwarded from the North-East DoD mailing list.  I found it hilarious.

Hah, this reminds me of a trip I made to Holland out of Logan.

As Thea and I were packing she noticed me packing up my laptop and said, "You're not working while we're on vacation!"

I replied, "This is to watch movies on the flight, because if I have to watch Knotting Hill one more time I'm going to kill someone."  Knotting Hill had been the in-flight movie on EVERY SINGLE FLIGHT I'd taken in the previous few weeks (something like five or six of them).

So we get on the plane and we're taxiing out and the attendent announces that today's movie will be Knotting Hill.  "HAH!" I said, fist upraised, knowing I'd be watching The Matrix instead.

Later they started the movie.  The soundtrack was in Chinese, with (presumably another dialect of) Chinese subtitles.  This played for about 10 minutes, at which time the attendent came on and said, "We know there's a problem with the movie.  We're going to try it in a different VCR."

Surprisingly, it did not come out in English using the other VCR either.
