I have decided that one of the regular things I'm going to do with our new [livejournal.com profile] caerllewys community is an On Tonight's Menu feature when we have something non-routine for supper.  I'll be periodically posting what we cooked, the recipe, and occasionally photos of the results if they're particularly photogenic.

We have all this stuff in a cookbook, which we'll probably make available in some fashion when we have it in the shape we want it.

A WTO ruling could be the beginning of the end for farm subsidies worldwide.  Hey, imagine that, the farmers would have to figure out how to compete on merit.... but you can bet we won't be getting any of the $2 billion back that the US hands out every year in agricultural subsidies.  Congress will find something to spend it on.

A new class of "hot Jupiters" have been found, orbiting within 2 million miles of their stars, so close that they complete an orbit in less than 48 hours.

New studies from the Hubble telescope's deep field camera have raised troubling questions about galaxy formation.  It seems there are too many galaxies at some times in the deep past, and not enough at others.

Think your ex was a parasite?  New research suggests that parasitism is how sex started.

...I think babylon5's monitor is fixing to quit any time now.  And since it's a Sun GDM90D10, if it does die right now, we won't be able to afford to replace it until I'm working again, unless I get REAL lucky and find another close-to-free GDM90D10 somewhere (or better still, one of the Sun 24" flat-panels that replaced the 90D10).  This means if it quits, I'll have to steal whitestar's monitor for babylon5 and rearrange everything on my desk and these suckers are HEAVY.

(A Sun GDM90D10 is a Sun-labelled Sony GDM-W900 with the 5-BNC input connection replaced by a hardwired 13W3 cable.  It weighs almost 150lb, and the last time I tried to price a replacement the best I could find was around $1200.)

Oh yeah, and Goose knocked a couple of coffee mugs down, one of which (one of my nice cobalt-blue LEAA mugs) broke. and during the subsequent cleanup I managed to drop one of the pieces on my right foot and cut it in two places.

The one bright spot is I found a replacement for minbar's dead Creator3D Series 3 video card for $10 (the last time I looked, they were closer to $125).  Now to hope nobody outbids me on it.  (So if you're looking at one on eBay and the top bidder is Alphacat ... do me a favor and please don't bid against me, huh?)
