So, there was no surgery on my foot today after all. I went in, everyone looked at the foot and today's X-rays, noted that it seemed to be trying to heal up again, and since there was no inflammation or swelling and the drainage was clear, we decided to give it a little longer and see how it'd do by itself for another month. That month comes just after Dr. Ciccinelli is scheduled to be in Germany for a week, and my foot seems to have a history of flaring up while he's out of town, so this may be interesting.
The X-rays are a separate story. Comparison of today's X-rays to the post-surgery X-rays is showing fairly dramatic erosion of the end of the bone. If I had copies of both, I'd post them to show the difference. There's a lot of bone gone, and it looks to me as though a lot of the bone that is there has lost density. There's now no doubt in my mind that this is the source of the bone fragments. I can't help but wonder exactly how far back my body plans on whittling that bone before it figures it's good.
