And out in flyover country, clear channel has bought everything and runs it remotely. There's frequently not even a human being inside those stations.

There's a business case for doing local content in the big cities, but it is much harder to justify for a town of 50k.

Awful music, hosts, etc.

This is what the iPod was made for. I use mine on the three to four hour run between Lake Tahoe and the SF Bay Area all the time.

The problem is the Benz does NOT have a CD player. Otherwise he'd have just popped in a few of the mixed cds that he made.

Yup. For about $350 installed, there is an Alpine 6-disc MP3-capable changer that's compatible with the Benz's audio system, and will Just Work with the existing head unit once connected. Six CDs of MP3s would have given me sufficient music for the whole trip.

I tried driving that stretch of 80 at 2:00 in the morning after attending a concert in Chicago a few years ago. The radio stations were just as bad then as they were when you went through, and I finally pulled over in a rest area short of South Bend and went to sleep.
