The purpose of LiveJournal, at this point, is to turn a profit for the owners. It is not sufficient that LJ simply cover it's own expenses. If FaceBook, that bastion of user security and respect for privacy, is making a profit with games, well, LJ wants to make a profit.
I am fairly certain that the owners of LJ simply do not comprehend the difference between a social network site and a blog site. To them, it is a place where people go online, where is the money?
