Facebook, that is.

I found Facebook spam in my mailbox again today. Inviting me to join up and "find friends".  And at the bottom of the message, there was a "If you want us to go the hell away and stop bothering you" link ...  well, OK, it was more of a "If you do not wish to receive messages like this one from Facebook" link.  And I figured, what the hell, they might honor it.  And the mail reader I use for that mailbox is text only and not UTF8 enabled, so I know there was no funny business in the URL.

Well, gee, look at that.  The "unsubscribe" link does not go to a FUCK THE HELL OFF AND GET YOUR SKANK ASS OUT OF MY MAILBOX page.  It doesn't even go to an ordinary Unsubscribe page or even an "Opt out of our mailing list that we opted you into uninvited after we harvested your email address from god knows where" page.

Nope, it goes to a Facebook sign-up page.

Mark Zuckerberg, I don't CARE if Time put you on their cover, YOU ARE A LYING SACK OF SHIT, and you are a SPAMMER.

Eat shit and die in a fire, you shameless wanker.

As it happens, it was just last night I found myself envisioning this exchange:

<Google>  "Don't be evil."

<Facebook>  SWEET!  Less competition!

Have you read about the "Like" button tracking cookies? Now harvested courtesy of Micro$oft Bing. I am not liking Facebook's friends...

My thought exactly. Micro$oft is doing a great deal of the back-ending of FaceBook data. The keep offering more and more services. The cutovers are happening faster and faster. The Zuck is an idiot.

they've added a new feature that applies facial recognition software to the tagging process, so that it suggests names for people when they're going through the process of tagging photos. this can only become worse with the machine learning curve. i'm in the process of pulling down all my photos...
and hoping DIaspora can get its chops up and running soon. they're very Alpha now, but they're also founded on the principle of control over one's own information.
