The repair work continues.  Big photo post to come, when it's all done.

The one unopened can of Rust-Oleum American Accents hammered bronze paint that we had in stock just lasted for one full, solid coat over the outside of our front door. (And I have to say, even with the slight patchiness of the coat due to the lousy spray nozzle, it looks damned nice.)  One same-size unopened can of the same brand in some kind of creamy off-white that we also already had in stock went about three quarters of the way down the door, not covering the grey primer well.  cymrullewes is running out right now for more paint — in a different color, because we seem to be agreed that while the hammered bronze on the outside came out very nicely, we don't really like the cream on the inside.  It has the tendency of many off-whites to look slightly dingy and yellowed even when new.

I'm wishing for a real spraygun right now.  Even with a pistol-grip attachment to make them a bit easier to use, these blasted cans have about a 15lb trigger pressure (was that some blasted liability lawyer's idea?) and a spray pattern like a cow pissing in a bucket.  It's almost impossible to get an even coat with them, and by the time I get halfway down one side of the door my hand is aching.

But!  Unlike the hammered-bronze we used on the outside, nothing says we have to spray-paint the INSIDE of the door... I can use a brush there.

Yay for progress! I'll love seeing the "work in progress" pics and such when you get done! Congrats - you're getting there!

Oh, I've used those pistol-grip spray-can attachments, too. I think they were designed to ruin the effective use of your hand for up to a week after one application.
