"The Obama administration supports extending three key provisions of the Patriot Act that are due to expire at the end of the year, the Justice Department told Congress in a letter made public Tuesday."

Hands up, anyone who's surprised.  ...  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama said he would take a close look at the law, based on his past expertise in constitutional law.

I continue to suspect that the only reason Obama ever studied the Constitution was to look for exploitable loopholes.

The lone wolf provision was created to conduct surveillance on suspects with no known link to foreign governments or terrorist groups. It has never been used, but the administration says it should still be available for future investigations.

"We've never yet found an excuse to use this provision.  But it's vital!  We can't do without it!"

And even if I trusted this administration, I wouldn't want to hand those powers on to whoever follows them . . .
