He's definitely an outside chance, but former Governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson just could be the most interesting potential Presidential candidate to come along in a long time.  Fiscally conservative, socially liberal.  Go read it; he makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Johnson/Paul in 2012 or 2016 could get really interesting.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, just endorsed Carly Fiorina for Senator from California.  I ... really can't find it in myself to lament the idea of Dianne Feinstein losing her seat, and Fiorina just may have the best chance of doing it.  But that's about the only good thing I can find to say about Fiorina.  As far as I can tell, her platform is composed entirely of empty WHARRRGARBL.

Hmmm... I've been invited to a meet-up where he'll be hanging out quaffing brews. I maybe might should ought to go.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to do so at some point.

johnson- not a bad guy. not a ringing endorsement, but his ethics were far more sound than the present administration. we kind of miss him.

"kind of"?

He was a fucking God of Ethics compared to Richardson. Even if we get a real governor back in office, it'll take decades to clear his cousins out of the positions he made for them.

Nepotism, a game the whole family can play...?

it's a primary sport of this state's democratic party. they've had a majority for far too long.

well. there are things i don't miss about johnson. and richardson has some skills. though i'm not sure that many of them apply well to governing the state.
and, yeah, on the ethics point, johnson is in a whole different realm than richardson. that alone would give me reason to consider him seriously. not to mention his fascinating version of pragmatism.

"fascinating version of pragmatism"?

he comes across to some degree as a libertarian in sheep's clothing. but didn't really become obvious about it until his last term, when he was ineligible for re-election. and... generally, have decent, reasonable explanations for his decisions that didn't involve catering to lowest common denominator or manipulating logical fallacies or yanking on emotional hot buttons. a lot of the details are fuzzy now, but as much as i disagreed with some of his decisions i could at least expect his communication to be direct, reliable and informative.

didn't seem like such a big deal at the time but after the last decade... well, it's part of why i kind of miss him.

i have hard time putting some of it in words. he just seemed real solid.

Yeah, the impression I get is he's a good guy.

Isn't Paul getting a little bit "up there" to be thinking about a Presidential/Vice-Presidential bid for 2016? Wasn't that one of the main things Repubs kept saying was a downside to McCain? That nobody over the age of 70 has ever been elected to a first-term in the Whitehouse?

Fiorina is actually running against Boxer. If I had to pick one of the two to be my Senator, I'd take DiFi over Boxer in a heartbeat (and I'd take a slightly damp sponge over DiFi...).

My mistake, I thought she was running against Feinstein. I won't say either would be a win, but either would probably be an improvement; Carly Fiorina may be a business disaster, but at least she's not as stupid as Boxer.

The CA race that really pains me is Governor. I really don't want to vote for Whitman, but I'd take almost anyone over Jerry Brown.

The return of Governor Moonbeam?

Yup...Poisner is trailing badly in the Republican primary. Newsome was the only (semi)serious contender against Brown and he dropped out ages ago (bucking for the Lt Gov job now). General election will almost certainly be Whitman/Brown.
