...Another little tiny shard of bone just worked its way out of my toe.  Large-sand-grain size.  I don't know whether this is a fragment from the last surgery, a remnant whittled off by osteoclast cells as part of the process of reshaping the bone after the last surgery, or an indication that little pieces are breaking off the bone as I walk on it.

The last of these would truly SUCK.

Urgg . . . this has been such an odyssey for you, and not in a good sense--more in the way Homer and his contemporaries looked on any long voyage by sea, i.e. long and bad. I hope it's one of the first two possibilities.
