... Does anyone among you know any way to configure Thunderbird 3.x so as to get the old Thunderbird 2.x on-the-fly message searching functionality back?  Type in the search box and have the filter applied right there and then to the open folder?  The improved-to-the-point-of-not-working search feature in Thunderbird 3.0 is driving me nuts.

Seamonkey 2.0 (the combined browser & email cliemt) does on the fly searching. You could use that and reduce the number of applications you have running as a bonus

I could, but I actually prefer to keep the tasks separate.

At least on the version I'm running, clicking in the search box gets a dropdown.

Change that from "search all" to one of the available options, and it acts as before.

HTH.

Drove me up the damn wall, too.

I have the drop-down set to 'subject or from filter'. I type in a few letters of something PLAINLY VISIBLE in the folder, nothing happens; hit Enter, and get a new tab telling me it found nothing.
