As reported by [livejournal.com profile] unix_jedi, the NRA is once again working to kill a pro-gun bill because it's too pro-gun for them.  Yes, I said "once again"; it's not the first time.

The thing I can't decide about the NRA, on the basis of the evidence, is whether it's unable to win anything because it's too afraid of losing to actually take the chance of winning, or whether it actively doesn't want any unequivocal victories because it fears that if the battle to restore firearms rights is won, it'll be out of a job.

I think they're interested in job security myself.

Well, both the DEA and the narco-mafia want drugs to stay illegal. BATF and the NRA have a similar pact.

Unfortunately, I'm not too surprised. The NRA tends to have an attitude of "my way or the highway", they've even been known to replace official state associations with ones more amenable to their policies (happened in Kentucky a few years back, some NRA headquarters people helped start up a new NRA affiliate and then made it the "official" state NRA affiliate, which impacts which organization officially authorizes state shooting championships, amongst other things, in addition to the political clout). Which is one reason I dropped out of the NRA for a few years, and even now, as a Life Member, don't donate any additional money. What I CAN suggest is that all NRA members vote for new members of the Board of Directors, and NOT for the candidates supported by Wayne LaPierre.

wow. sure looks like we need a new NRA.

Actually, I think Wayne LaPierre is THE problem. If everyone else has to be elected every year, or every few years, then Wayne's job should be up for grabs periodically as well.

Agreed. The NRA needs a good coup. Neal Knox might be a good candidate.
