According to “sources,” the White House is considering salary controls for “all financial institutions” and “publicly traded companies,” not just those receiving “federal bailout money.”

In other news, another broken campaign promise:

Gay and lesbian rights advocates expressed chagrin Sunday at the lack of urgency President Obama seems to be treating his campaign promise to overturn the ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the armed forces.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged on Fox News Sunday that funds have been allocated for the 2010 budget to enforce the “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell” policy.

If 2010 buget has been allocated for enforcing it, with the budget in as bad shape as it is, it sounds like that’s another campaign promise Obama doesn’t intend to keep any time soon.

Earlier this month, White House spokesman Tommy Vietor issued a statement claiming that President Obama supports changing the law.  “As part of a long standing pledge, he has also begun consulting closely with Secretary Gates and (Joint Chiefs) Chairman (Admiral Mike) Mullen so that this change is done in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security.”

But Gates said that the “dialogue” about overturning the ban “has really not progressed very far at this point in the administration.  I think the president and I feel like we’ve got a lot on our plates right now, and let’s push that one down the road a little bit.”

After all, what’s another two years?

I would love to see the rational for enabling salary controls, especially what would survive the courts. Obama may want it, I suspect he is unlikely to get it. (Without any further verification beyond a comment in an editorial, I am not convinced that President Obama even wants it.)

Obama is unlikely to support GLBT causes any time soon. Those causes are kind of like the second amendment to him, maybe important, but not worth pursuing.

But like any other politician, he's willing to promise support, or let the GLBT groups believe he's promised support, then renege after the election.

Hope.

He just has bigger fish to fry getting through his socialist agenda. The massive amount of spending our President is attempting to make institutional in our government is so mind boggling, that he can probably be forgiven for putting smaller issues off until he no longer has a majority in congress.
