A surprising move from IBM

I would never have predicted this one ... IBM is getting into high-speed rail, and plans to officially announce projects today in China, Taiwan and the Netherlands.

I believe IBM did all the systems development and integration work behind BART (http://www.bart.gov), so this isn't an entirely new field for them at least....

We could so use some alternatives to air travel in the USA. I wish we could pick up some of that rail stuff here. (I would settle for a functional bus system.) Still, that sort of logistic and tracking/reaction system is not new to IBM. (I wonder where the development work will be located.)
