PETA has approximately two million members.

PETA's ludicrous "sea kitten" campaign has attracted ... wait for it ... 6250 signatures.

That's a fraction over 0.3% of their own membership.

EPIC FAIL.

(Note:  This screencap is actually from seakittens.org, which PETA doesn't actually own.  Someone else registered it first, put the PETA "sea-kitten" site in a frame, and proceeded to have fun with it.  The Omaha Steaks banner ad, for instance.)

That's not NEARLY as good as the ad that's at the top of the page...

A PETA site is getting ad generated revenue from selling steaks?

CLASSIC

Yes, that in itself is an even epic-er fail. :)

PETA doesn't actually own seakittens.org. Another outfit registered it first, put the PETA sea-kitten site in a frame, and proceeded to have fun with it. (See update.)

What about the poor, abused Sea-Monkeys sold to kids reading cheap magazine adds every year? Surely PETA can't ignore them - it is so wrong!

The site now displays the following:

SEA KITTENS CLOSED

We regret to announce that we are completely sold out of our stock on sea kittens. For non-sea-based kittens, please see landkittens.org

Which in turn points back to seakittens.org with a similar message. :)

Who else suspects a cease and desist from PETA? In this instance it really does fit the cybersquatting definition so they won't have a leg to stand on. They were making a profit off of the popularity(or lack thereof) of the PETA campaign to sell steaks.

The EVIL meat (http://www.omahasteaks.com/) of DooM!

And the sea terror (http://www.omahasteaks.com/servlet/browse/1/Seafood/Seafood-Steaks?Dsp=148&RAND=BC8997) of delight!

At their prices going vegetarian is not offensive to me. But I'd probably be trapping squirrels and rabbits in a week.

Colbert's segment on this (landfish) was epically funny... 1:30 in this clip:
