Dressing change on the abscess. It's draining more than I anticipated, but doesn't look infected. There was some clotted blood in there, but for the most part it seems to be bleeding clean. (Of course, the thorough flushing out I gave it last night with a syringe and about 5ml of surgical alcohol probably helped on that score. Stung like a bastard.) I just probed it a bit to figure out how big it is, as the external opening is very small, only about an eighth of an inch, barely enough to get a swab into. It seems narrow but deep, going pretty much down to the bone, and doesn't seem to be quite on the surgical incision line after all -- I think it's actually coming up from the pin track from the last pin to be removed.
Appointment set up for tomorrow at 1100 at Eastern Carolina Foot and Ankle's bright shiny new facility on Arlington Boulevard. Dr. Ciccinelli is out of town again, as he was for the first abscess, so once again Dr. Roman will get to check it out,as she did the first one. (This is getting to be a habit.)
This is getting to be severely annoying. If my toe is going to keep throwing abscesses, we may eventually have to have the toe amputated. (I'm also considering the possibility that the little toe on that foot may need to be fused; it's already trying, painfully, to twist and curl under the toe next to it again.)
