It's not just the economy

The problem with auditing the Fed, or a lot of other government ledgers, is the classic warning:

"Don't ask a question if you aren't prepared to accept the answer."

If the answer is unacceptable, then perhaps the wrong people have been placed in charge of the policies the question is about.
