Smart knees.

What might smart knees do?  What might they be capable of?

Smart knees would provide extra amounts of cushioning, allow me to race up and down stairs with nary a twinge and bend both ways.

I think that, too, falls under ruggedized knees. Or maybe severe-duty knees.

Smart knees would always stay where they belong, they would not be noisy, they would bend and straighten without sticking, they would do their job without complaint, and balance my checkbook.

Personally, I'd settle for the additional ligaments that would stabilize the joint; joints actually are pretty smart already. People, on the other hand, maybe not so smart.

That would be ruggedized knees. I'm trying to brainstorm what smart knees might do. :)

I ~like~ you. :-)

I would think that smart knees would have the ability to flex just a bit beyond normal so when you are doing something that is just that shade beyond what you should be able to do the smart knee stretches/flex/what have you to make sure you don't hurt yourself.

It would be good if they also sent you a message that you need an injection of the synovial fluid. And the "Hey Dummy! We have had enough for today! Sit down and rest for the rest of the day, you goober!"

Injection? Heck, if they need regular top-ups, they should just have Zerk fittings. :)

ah but you see regular top ups would negate the need for the knees to be smart enough to know when they are low.

See? This way lies madness! You will be assimilated.

Smart knees would regularly perform self-repair CORRECTLY.

I think the ability to perform self-repair would put them into the "sufficiently advanced technology" category.

Smart knees should tell you, via implant, that you really have pushed yourself too far today and need a lay down with a nice cuppa and a movie.
