As pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] elegantelbow, First Bank SD has a new service which hopes to compete with Pay Pal.  One of the major differences between First Bank's Revolution MoneyExchange and PayPal is that, well, First Bank is a real bank and a member of the FDIC, which means that your money is insured up to $1000.  It also means they have to comply with banking regulations, and can't pull the same shenanigans that PayPal has been frequently documented as doing.  What's more, unlike PayPal, Revolution does not charge you a fee to receive payments.  There are some fees, but all are avoidable.  (Example: $2.50 fee for withdrawals by check, but ACH transfers to an existing bank account are free.)

Refer A Friend using Revolution Money Exchange

If you sign up by tomorrow (Thursday, 5/15), you'll get a free $25 in your account.  If you get there by clicking the button at right, I will also receive a referral bonus of $10.  (Step 3:  Profit!)

UPDATE:

I have just been advised by [livejournal.com profile] rbos that, although it doesn't say so up front anywhere, you must be a US resident to be able to sign up for MoneyExchange.  However, [livejournal.com profile] danjite was able to sign up, and he's in New Zealand.  Further clarification pending as I know more.

Tried to sign up, but apparently they couldn't verify some of the information I've given. (Logical - I've been at this address for less than a year, and I have no reason to think it might show on any credit reports.)

Hopefully you'll still get the $10.

So, what info do I need to give for your referral bonus?

Use that button to get to the site, and it should happen automatically. On the offchance it doesn't and it asks if you have a referrer, give it username caerllewys, domain metrocast dot net.

"All accountholders must be a citizen or resident alien of the United States (U.S.) with a valid U.S. taxpayer identification number."

Which explains why [livejournal.com profile] danjite could sign up -- he's a US citizen, even if not resident in the US.

That, and he used his parents' address.

So, someone's paying $25 for SSANs, hunh?
Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 07:04 pm (UTC)
Could look at it that way, or as paying $25 for hoped-for future business.
Monday, May 19th, 2008 04:30 pm (UTC)
As of the 19th, they're still paying the $25.

Maybe they extended it. Haven't seen any referral bonuses come in yet though....

DOH! Possibly because their referrer button link was broken and I didn't notice. :p Just this minute fixed it......
