What happened here:  It snowed, followed by sleet and freezing rain, forming a shell of ice on top of the snow.  Then the weather warmed up and the sun melted some of the snow out from under the ice, leaving this delicate filigree of ice suspended in mid-air.

I took more than this one photo, but the others were out of focus.  My camera does not do macro well, unfortunately.  This is cropped from the 1856x1392 original.

That is wicked cool! Of course, if something like that happened around here in North Carolina, the whole state would be paralyzed for a month.

It did happen. The coastal plain wasn't paralyzed but it took a week for the repair crews to get finished. It happens about every three years. You're just in the weak/puny RTP where the damn yankees live who have lost the knowledge of it, that's all. :-)
