....that the problem with judges allowing gay marriages, etc, is that it "increases uncertainty."  I spent a little while thinking about this, and couldn't figure out what on earth he means, because the only answer that presented itself just doesn't make sense.  Surely he can't really be saying that gay marriage needs to be banned because, if gay marriage were allowed, he's afraid some poor heterosexual might inadvertently marry a member of the same sex by accident?

Bwahahaha!

No, I don't think that's what he means. I think he means, "idiot Americans won't be certain what is the right (-wing) thing to do if the government doesn't take away all the wrong choices."

Oh, I figured he meant people with wedding rings could no longer be assumed to be straight.

I suppose you have a point. (Though it's not nearly as amusing.)
Sometimes I wonder if we, as a species, will ever get over trying to write ourselves justifications and authority so keep other people down, keep them apart from us, or do unspeakable things to them for no better reason than because they're Not Like Us and we're secretly afraid that we might get cooties from them.

Oh yeah, and it occurs to me as an afterthought: If that's the basis of the "undertainty" he's so mortally afraid off, perhaps we should just ALL start wearing rings on the third fingers of our left hands, whether we're married or not.

And you tell who is married by who has the matching rings? Hrm, it would make poly marriages easy to spot. :-) (It would also make custom jewelry more widespread.)

I hadn't thought of that variation; I was just thinking of confounding the Those People Aren't Right crowd.
