OK, so it's not quite organic superlubricant.  But after visiting the orthopedist this morning (details of the reasons here, as well as in a couple of other recent posts also behind my medical filter), I now have bio-engineered high-viscosity synthetic lubricant in my right knee.  (If it goes well, we'll probably do the left too.)

Is that cool, in a sort of cyberpunk way, or what?

Yes. In fact, it's called "Enhanced Articulation" in ShadowRun, and I've wanted it since I read about it in '95 or so...cartilage is a great solution for the first 25-30 years or so, but after that, feh.

My cartilage was doing fine up until the day some asshat hit me with a full-size station wagon.

What I want to know is when do I get the reflex booster, the cyberoptics, and the auxiliary neural processor?

I want the full skeletal replacement, that's it.

Yeah, I want my place in that line reserved, too. I've often wondered what the mechanical effects would be of replacing calcium carbonate in the human skeleton with magnesium carbonate.

Hollow titanium! Just squish the marrow back in there.

Honestly, I guess it's not the bones I care about as much as the joints.

Replicating the range of a biological joint in a single mechanical joint is, I understand, a really bloody difficult problem.

Titanium skeleton ....... that would be SOOOOO much fun at TSA checkpoints. :) Why, you might have to go to and from the departure lounge several times, just to make their day more interesting.
