We were recently given a Nintendo Gamecube by perspicuity. One of the games
cymrullewes has for it is something called (I think) Mario Sunshine. It seems to have a good solid implementation of the DSD instruction.
DSD is sort of like DWIM, but ... opposite. It's the inverse of DWIM. Functionally speaking, it's typically (and extensively, in Mario Sunshine) used basically like this:
- Figure out what the player intended.
- Do Something Different.

If you need to hit general "stuff on the ground", I generally just flew over it using the Hover Nozzle (if that one's not available at the start of the game, I think you unlock it relatively early).
If you need to hit specific targets (blue coin races, etc.), I generally just went into first-person view, where control is much finer.
Then again, it's been years since I've played SMS, so perhaps I'm misremembering stuff.
