This electric drag-bike, powered by lithium-ion batteries, makes 350HP, does 0-60 in one second, and runs an 8.2-second quarter-mile at over 155mph.

At left, the record-breaking 155mph run. At right, reportedly an even faster 8.16-second run, though you don't get to see the board. (No, I have no clue what the cameraman was doing either.)

Update:

Somehow the video links got scrambled, but [livejournal.com profile] skreidle caught the error.  Fixed now.

Seriously cool! I doubt I would ever need a bike that goes that fast, but it would be fun to have one.

I like the electric bikes because of the low noise. When I had my bike, I was always jealous of the BMW's because they were so quiet.

(I am assuming the contraption on the back of the bike on the right is to keep it from flipping over from too much torque on the back wheel.)

That's exactly the purpose, yes.

See, I keep saying electric vehicles have too short of a range.

This one only goes a quarter of a mile! ;)

Yeah, but it can do it seven times on a single charge! That's almost two miles! ;)

Really, that's the only limitation. Electric motors have proved themselves in all kinds of intense applications like diesel-electric and nuclear-electric power trains.

If I were president, developing high-density energy technology would be high on my list.
