Rendezvous with Rama is supposedly "on track to happen", starring Morgan Freeman.

Like “2001: A Space Odyssey,” perhaps Clarke’s most enduring and famous work, “Rendezvous” poses difficulties because it’s about thoughts, insisted Freeman, not actions.  “There are no guns, no explosions,” he said.  “Although it’s fiction, it’s all based on pure science.”

Well, I'm sure it doesn't meet Hollywood's conception of what makes a good movie. But hey, Hollywood thought Caddyshack was a good idea.

I heard about what they did to Starship Troopers, I don't want to see what they will do to Rama.

Yeah. I understand they're doing similarly unspeakable things to Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising (http://www.bookmoot.com/2007/07/movie-dark-is-rising.html). And then there's the Keith Lynch Dune, which I understand Keith Lynch eventually asked that his name be taken off of ....
