"We're the FBI Google, ma'am.  We have no sense of humor that we are aware of."

Acknowledging that it's better to be clear than clever, Google is rebranding "Froogle" as "Google Product Search" and simplifying the interface to match the main search site, a top executive said on Wednesday.

Aw, come on, guys.  That's BORING!  Froogle was clever.

"The pun (to "frugal") isn't obvious", says Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president of search product and user experience.  Um, wasn't obvious to whom?  And which rock, exactly, were they living under?

If you would like and have an ftp site, I would be happy to send you a copy of the Midnight Oil Green album.

Huh. I'm not familiar with that one.

That is precisely why I offered.

It was a radio only greatest hits and re mixes compilation.

It took me four years to find it on E Bay and I paid... a lot.

For me, anyway.

"Google Product Search" makes me picture a supermarket where everything has a plain white label with black block letters. The beer all says "BEER," the cola all says "COLA," the steaks all say "MEAT," and it's all terribly generic.

Yeah, froogle->frugal was a pretty obvious connection to me. I used pricegrabber much more often than froogle. I don't think the name had anything to do with it, though.

Generally, for computer hardware I use pricewatch or pricegrabber, but for more general and less easily classified things, I found froogle better. Though "-ebay" is almost essential ....

It wasn't obvious to management idiots, obviously!
