Spam a tractable problem?

According to this article, analysis of email traffic at demon.co.uk, the UK's primary Internet carrier, indicates that a very solid chunk of all the spam in circulation is coming from just five large "spam gangs".  Five major sources make it a tractable problem; five sources can be tracked and shut down.

That is only because they have found safe haven. The problem will be like holding quicksilver in your hand, squeeze it and it will go everywhere.

I've been saying for years that the "heads on pikes" solution would probably go a long way towards reducing the amount of spam in the world.
