Tonight's supper provided an answer to the unasked question, "What would happen if fondue and poutine got really drunk one night and decided to fool around?  And would they still respect each other in the morning?"

Actually, it didn't turn out half bad.

Um. Sounds like something that healthfood fanatics would love.

Cheese curds + French Fries + Gravy

My sister-in-law is ex-pat Canadian.

Actually, with ham, french fries, and lots of full-fat cheese coming to the party, I suspect most health-food fanatics would flee screaming.

You are my hero for today. Heh. What did you do? Create a big pot of melted cheese and gravy and dip french fries in it?

Mmmmmm...poutine. (Which should NEVER be mispronounced in the company of Quebecois as the word for prostitute is almost identical)

Well, basically, by popular consensus I was going to make bento beef for supper ... until I realized we had no cornstarch. So I had to come up with Plan B in a hurry.

Plan B was to make some kind of cheese sauce over ham, and serve something with it. The process of implementing plan B actually resulted in something much more closely resembling a cheese fondue, chock full of diced ham. Then inspiration struck and I fired up the deep fryer, made a bunch of french fries, and poured the fondue over the top.

mmmm...and how was the heart attack? :)

Well, no-one's dropped dead from it yet. :) For once, everyone ate their supper.

Well, yeah we all ate some of it. :-D

It was rather like Swiss pancakes. Wonder how you could cut the saltiness of it. I'm not sure if it is all coming from the ham or not. And I sort of expected you to have added the gravy puck to it.
