I just brought in the mail, and it includes our Costco membership renewal notice.  $100 to spend.  The same sheet of paper also contains our 2% rebate check from executive rebate ... for $109.57.

The way I see it, Costco is paying us $9.57 to renew our executive membership.

Maybe. By the time you add up the 100 you gave them to all the others and the 1percent or better over night rate on money loans they'll probably clear a big chunk of that. They also have you locked to them for a period of time.

It's probably better than Sam's club, I felt like I should have had a barcode on my forehead.

Well, look what we're talking about ... Sam's Club is Wally World with bigger boxes and even less selection. The margins are so thin already there's not much left to cut out to make the big-box store cheaper than the regular stores. We had a Sam's Club membership for a year or so, and were so unimpressed we didn't bother renewing.

That's true now, back then there was a reason to do so. I did it for an employer as I'd not have done it myself. A digitally stored photograph and in house printed photo ID was unreal.

Not long after that they changed the way the pricing structure worked and was not worth bothering to renew.

I miss the old wholesale club that was bought out by Sam's, they'd have unbelievable deals at times. Sam's never had those deals.

I think Costco may be better and we have one, just need to check it out.

I've had a Costco membership on and off for about ... uh ... fifteen years now, and I still like it a lot. I've gotten my money back on the membership many, many times over.
