The good news:  New Möen showerhead for the upstairs bathroom, that has a torrent-style fixed head and a handheld "shower massage" head, and you can use either or both at once.

The bad news:  Can't fully assemble it because there's bad threads on one of the crucial joints, and so the handheld unit flat-out will not mount properly.  You can force the coupling on about one turn if you use a wrench, but it leaks like a sieve.

The debate:  Return the whole thing tomorrow and exchange it, or get Möen to replace the defective parts?  I'm leaning towards returning it, but I suppose if we can get Möen to pull the appropriate replacement parts, make sure they fit, and then overnight them to us, then we'll know we won't have the same problem again with the replacement.  And we can use the fixed head in the meantime.

(The fixed head is the type I prefer anyway.  Silly me, I like the spray pattern of my showerhead to be a filled circle or oval, not a ring with nothing in the middle.)

Can I ask where you purchased the shower head?

One of the less wonderful side effects of stores like Home Depot and Wall*Mart is that they beat quality companies down below cost on their product. In order to stay in business, the companies drop the quality on the parts they sell to the big box stores. At this point, you almost need to go to a commercial supply shop to buy the quality parts you are expecting. I am wondering if this experience falls into that category.

(I can't blame you for shower head preference. It sounds sane.)

Lowes Hardware, in this case.

handhelds are the best and make for easier rinsing of the nether regions!

Can you wrap the threads with plumbers tape to get a tight seal?

A handheld shower is an absolute necessity for me. It's the only way to spray water directly on the genitals and behind, for those times when a washcloth just isn't enough.

It's a moot issue now. I took it back to Lowes hardware today and exchanged it. I had to open three boxes, counting the one I returned, and trial-fit them before I found one that went together properly. The implication is that two out of three, in that batch at least, are defective.

I pointed this out to Lowes' customer service people. If I interpret the resulting activity correctly, they immediately escalated it to management.

We're now fully dual-mode-shower enabled.

A handheld shower is an absolute necessity for me.

For me as well but I'm still at that stage of life where I'm washing children twice as often as I'm washing me. Much easier to use the shower hose than to strip and get in the shower with them and pick them up to get them closer to the water. Slippery when wet and they are heavy enough that if they start squirming I will drop them.

Goose got to be the first person to actually use the double shower head. I was in the kitchen and heard the "Squeeee!"

OH, yes, and it's the also the only way I could ever wash shampoo out of my girls' hair without them screaming.
