Or, Children are eating my brain!

We woke up this morning to no hot water.  Went down, checked the furnace; it wasn't running and wouldn't start.  Turned out the power vent unit had given up the ghost.  Six hours and $500 of our landlord's money later, it's running again, and there's a bright shiny new stainless-steel power vent in place.

For almost the whole of those six hours, I've had small people babbling at me, competitively screaming, and/or all three demanding different things at once.  It makes it hard to think.  Then I spent 45 minutes on hold with USCIS to file a change of address and finally gave up when it became apparent no-one was going to answer the phone.

Now I get to go to the hardware store and buy a replacement for the bathroom vent fan, which turned its toes up and died last night.  Fortunately it looks nicely modular.  And the bulb in the one light we have in the downstairs den/office blew out while I was looking right at it, so I need to do something about that.  Wen the Eternally Surprised needs a new bed, the Dread Pirate Bignum needs some substitute for the closet her room doesn't have, we need real lights for the office, pet-resistant screening for the screen-porch door, I need parts to wire in a 30A dedicated circuit to run our big 3KVA UPS, the girls need alarm clocks ... whee!

When do you start the "Going to School Tango"?
Sunday, August 27th, 2006 01:24 am (UTC)
Pirate and Goose start first and sixth grade, respectively, next Wednesday. Pirate's bus will be coming at [theoretically] 0806, Goose's at 0734.

We start the day after Labor Day. The debate is starting about taking Squirrel to the buss stop after the first week. She is now eight, and is starting third grade.

We still do not have a supplies list from the school. Next week will be quite hectic, even so, we are down to five schools to deal with, not counting colleges. (not counting parents)
