[livejournal.com profile] ebonypearl discusses how the government "helps the clergy prepare for disasters".  It makes very interesting reading.  Possibly the most disturbing part of the government's instructions to clergy is the following:

"They said it was appropriate that violence increase against women, and we were to use Scripture to support acceptance, [...]."

Let me get this straight:  Our government, or an agency thereof, is calling for violence against women?  Because that's what this excerpt appears to be saying.

Disclaimer:  No original documents have been provided by the original poster.

Update (July 12):

[livejournal.com profile] beckyzoole followed the link (which I somehow missed) to the PDF of the document circulated at the seminar, and in her opinion, it appears to be a case of the poster being told one thing, but hearing something else entirely.  There may also be a factor in play of the poster hearing the seminar through a preconceived filter of "the Man is evil", or, as [livejournal.com profile] beckyzoole points out, of simply having a truly awful presenter for the seminar who made a complete hash of it.

I would have to see substantiation before I could render comment. This is too wild a story for my personal gut-check, but at the same time, I have enough distrust of the government not to dismiss it out of hand.

That's why I added the disclaimer that the poster has not offered original documents to support the claim, and why I said "disturbing, if true". I know that both ends of the political spectrum -- Democratic Underground and Little Green Footballs (is that supposed to, like, mean anything?) -- are wont to post the wildest fever-dream ravings and pass them off as truth.

Ask wicca_chaplain, she is in the military.

The post does link to a pdf of the brochure that was distributed at the seminar. I've just read it. There is a reference to violence against women, it's the first example of a "crisis situation". The Genesis story of the rape of Dinah is quoted, with questions for discussion. The discussion questions are mostly about PTSD, suffered both by the victim and by her relatives. My impression is that the leader is supposed to use this incident as an example of the insane things people can do when a loved one has been hurt.

Within the context of a brochure on pastoral crisis intervention for Christian clergy, the example makes sense and the discussion questions are appropriate.

I think that the problems here are:

1. The brochure and workshop were planned entirely for a certain type of Christian clergy, and even non-mainstream-Protestant clergy would probably have felt left out.

2. The workshop presenter may well have been incompetent.

3. The comments about "normal violence" might have been made by a fellow participant, not by the presenter.

4. Memory is an unreliable bitch.

OK, I evidently managed to miss the PDF link. So you're saying this is a case of the poster being told "rabbit" and hearing "the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on"?

It was a vicious rabbit! With fangs!
