OK, this is real short and simple:  I find the recently-added "LJ Navigation Bar" or whatever they call it to be an annoyance and a waste of space that does absolutely nothing useful.  I turned it off for my own journal, but the stupid, useless thing keeps coming back every time I comment on someone else's post.  Anyone know a way to banish the damned thing altogether?

I think the problem may be related to people choosing the option "Always show the navigation strip to anyone who views your journal or community" on their navbar setting. Not that that's much help in stopping it happen.

For the life of me I can't think why anyone would force others to see the navbar.

For the life of me I can't see why anyone uses it in the first place. I don't find it does anything useful.

I don't have the slightest idea what the LJ Navigation Bar is, so can't help you. Then again, I'm still using the same formatting etc. as I did when I first created my LJ, so perhaps the old styles don't support the new-fangled stuff.

It's probably too late to get them to take away the LJ Navigation Bar, but there are lots of other changes being planned, and they're even worse.

Go take a look at the last three or four posts in [livejournal.com profile] lj_design to see what I mean.

Actually, I don't think the proposed new profile page is so horrible. I think it looks better, though I'd prefer to have a lot more freedom to design my own. Many things I've tried to do on my profile page just ...... don't work on a profile page.

I haven't seen it. I still have the old style comment box. I also run the LJ theme from 4 years ago, so maybe that's why.

I currently use the navigation bar when I look at my own journal, because it's an easy way to determine if LJ has logged me off and I need to log in again. However, I don't force it on anyone else.

You might be able to get around it by tagging ?style=mine on to the end of the url. eg http://unixronin.livejournal.com/profile?style=mine
