... to just saying "Fuck it" and reformatting every disk on every machine I own.

Thursday, May 11th, 2006 11:39 am (UTC)
I've been thinking about doing that myself, actually.

I told you that CP/M was a mistake.

Also, my FFL is saying that you need to ship through an FFL on your end.

So, I guess I need a fax number for an FFL in your neck of the woods.

That's your FFL's policy, not law. He should be able to send it straight to your FFL for them to handle the transfer. Straight off the BATF's FAQ page:

(B1) To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA?

A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his or her state, if the buyer is not prohibited by law from receiving or possessing a firearm, or to a licensee in any state. A firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector. [18 U. S. C 922( a)( 3) and (5), 922( b)( 3), 27 CFR 178.29]

So, what happens is that Phil would transfer the firearm to your local licensee, who would then transfer the firearm to you after performing the necessary background checks.

Beat me to it.

Hunh.

Ok, well, I'll go just talk to the owner (as opposed to random employees) and if it turns out to be the store policy after all, I guess I'll find somewhere else and save Alaric the fees.

Well, I went and talked to the owner, and now have an inked copy of their FFL. So, I'll send that to you with a postal money order sometime tomorrow, Monday at the latest.

Cool. Now I just have to remember where the "real" post office is around here to cash it .... Oh, right, it's over on DW Highway.

I like the idea, I just know that right now I don't have the stuffin' in me to reinstall 10 computer OSs so that I don't get lynched by the family.

I told him he can't and he gave me a Look. I reminded him how long it took him to rip 300+ CDs to MP3.

You're running 10 different OSes? That's more than us. We're running 6. I think... *BSD, Solaris 10, Windows 2K, Slackware, Gentoo, and MacOS. I was going to say 7 but remembered that his base OS is a Slack same as what llioness is running.

I don't think he thinks of the Macintoshes are his computers to reformat. Nor most of the Win2K boxes. Touching llioness would be a very bad idea for him.

babylon5 hardly really counts as Slackware any more, I've replaced so much of it.

Not 10 different OSs, thank G-d. But 10 computers that must run or the admin gets mobbed.
Friday, May 12th, 2006 05:01 am (UTC)
I was just feeling frustrated and futile anyway.
Friday, May 12th, 2006 01:41 pm (UTC)
Just do an inplace reinstall of gentoo on your oldest machine. That should cure the desire to change things. Of course, it may not help the frustrated and futile part.

This is the only machine with a Gentoo install on it right now, and it's not the running OS because I never got Xorg working to my satisfaction.

And oh my god, X.org's setup tool is unconscionably horrible.

I'll move mabolgamp over later. I think I need a nap right now.
