.... I have just listed my CBR929RR for sale on Craigslist.  Not that I wouldn't rather keep it; but right now, we need the money more.  I'm hoping to get enough out of it that we can justify spending some of the proceeds on an older bike; there's a local dealer who has a white 1993 VFR750F that would make a nice replacement for the customized red '91 destroyed under me on Splat Day.  (Whether I'll be able to afford to make the same set of modifications to it right now is ... debatable.  If the Force eBay is with me, it might be possible.)

You know, if I didn't live clear across the country, I'd probsbly make you an offer on it. Big Blue is starting to show his age poorly

Oh, come on, you know you want to do the Iron Butt thing. Just once. :)

I already have. When I was 16, I did a tour of most of the lower 48 on a '78 Yamaha XJ750. One of the more spiritual experinces of my life, (also very odd to be tooling around on something older then I was). It also just about killed the bike.

And my ass.

This is the point where I have to sheepishly confess never having attempted anything half as ambitious myself. And unless I can get my foot and ankle fixed up properly somehow (or at least, get my foot pain-free and get a bike with a power shifter), I probably won't get the chance now.

Hey, I was 16. It's not ambitious if you don't actually think about the consequences before you start the actions. :)

Heh. You have a point. :)

Also, I diagree with your premise that you've never attempted anything so ambitious. You decided that you were going to walk again after having had much of your lower body mangled, and have pretty much managed it. That's way more ambitious then saying 'I wanna get out of the house, I've got a running bike, a couple grand, and camping gear...ROADTRIP!!"

I suppose that, too, is a valid point. :)
