DOH!

I just killed the deep fryer.  Plugged it in to make supper, forgot to take off the polyethylene splash lid, and melted the lid into the oil.  I didn't even realize I'd done it until cymrullewes spotted it.

The fryer is sitting outside the front door now in case polyethylene releases toxic fumes when dumped in 450°F oil.  Ah well ... we needed to replace it with a bigger one anyway, really.

My dad did this once! And I tried to tell him about it, but he was busy talking with my mom at the time and kept telling me to "wait until we're done." So I had to settle for unplugging the thing. (I might add I was about 12 at the time.)

I just killed the food processor. Actually, I think it just gave up from overwork, since I use the thing constantly, and it was a cheapo model on its 3rd owner.
