Well, that was fun .... NOT.

I just got back from the podiatrist's office for the followup on the pressure-induced fissure in my foot, and was making hot dogs for lunch for Pirate and Wen.  I picked Wen up to sit her on my shoulder while the hot dogs cooked, not realizing I was standing right under the kitchen light, and bonked her head lightly (how else?) on the light diffuser globe.

Whereupon said light globe shattered explosively, raining shards of glass all over the kitchen.  Both Wen and I had glass in our hair, and Pirate (who was standing by the refrigerator) has a little pinprick cut on her arm from a flying glass shard.

I've gotten all the glass out of everyone's hair, and swept up the kitchen.  Now we get to replace the light globe, if not the entire light fitting.  Fortunately there was no exposed food out, so we didn't have to throw out any food.

Update:

Unsurprisingly, no replacement globe is readily available.  We'll have to replace the entire fitting.

Just think of what great family stories these kids will tell their grandchildren! [wavery voice]"Did I ever tell you about the time I made a light fixture explode with my head? I did? Well, it was like this..."[/wavery voice]

no joy. nothing even close to the right size. And all the replacement kitchen fittings are fluorescent.
