Google Blogsearch

Yup, for those who haven't already seen it yet, Google searches blogs now.  Opinions on this have been mixed; I've seen several people who don't like it.  Well, uh ... pardon me for stating the obvious, but anyone who doesn't want their blogging publicly visible should probably question whether they should be running a public blog.

Personally, I like it.  For starters, frankly, it appears to be the easiest way for me to find things in my own journal that I know I posted, but can't remember when.  And then there's the fact that when I blogsearched myself, just to see what came up, the first page contained this post from johnkzin, which he posted while I was on my way cross-country and had neither time nor necessarily access for reading journals.  Yeah, it's a quiz meme.  Look at his third answer:

3.~What do you honestly think of unixronin?  I wish I knew even half of what he knows.

Things like this, particularly coming from people I respect and admire, both make my day and, at the same time, make me think "....I'm not worthy!  I'm not worthy!"

It will certainly make me even more conscious about not linking my real name to my journal, and it disturbs me a little that Leif's journal is one of the "related blogs" that pops up if you search for Leif, but overall, I agree - if you don't want people to see it, don't put it online.

It's worth remembering that Google Blogsearch can only see public posts. Anything you have protected won't show up.
