If you go to First Colony Coffee & Tea's website and sign up for an account to place an order, it will first ask you for an email address and a password, then go to a second page where it asks for the rest of your user information. Only after filling out this second page will it check whether you actually entered a valid password on the first page. (I know this because at the point of submitting the second page, it complained that my password on the first page was more than 12 characters. Nowhere on either page are either a 12-character password length limit, or any other password restrictions, mentioned.)
This is crappy design, pure and simple. I don't know whether First Colony is to blame; it may be the fault of Cartlogix, by whom firstcolonycoffee.com's shopping cart is powered.
Bad web designer. No donut.
Update:
First Colony responds,
"Your point is well taken. This is most definitely a design flaw that I (we) never even noticed! I am forwarding your suggestion to our webmaster, and will request this change as quickly as possible."
