Hey, it's not like this is a recent development. The constitution was shot in the head and laid in its grave back in 1861. And it was real sick even before that.
Yeah, that was the first major Federal assault on the Constitution. I think it's the first time they've made as publicly-visible an assault on the First Amendment, though.
Lincoln shut down newspapers that printed pro-seccesionist views, and jailed without Habeus Corpus those who espoused pro-seccesionist opinions, or even just anti-war opinions. He issued an arrest warrant for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after he issued a ruling that Lincoln found unfavorable.
it makes you wonder just how much dislike for Dubya there really is in the USA. The illusion of "public support" for him becomes more questionable when one reads that article.
::laughs:: Really, did you expect any more than that? At this point, I'm surprised that folks with true opinions aren't just forced into seclusion and solitude. God knows our dear president doesn't care to hear a voice other than his own.
