VirtualCD's runtime upgrade check keeps telling me today that there's an updated version available, v7.1 (I'm currently on v7.0.0.1), and I should upgrade.
There's just one problem with this. If you click the link it offers and go to their site to download the upgrade, you will get an installer that claims to be v7.1 that actually (a) installs 7.0.0.1 again, and (b) will totally blow away your VirtualCD configuration in the process. What's worse, unlike VirtualCD 4, VirtualCD 7 does not keep its CD configuration in a file that you can easily just restore.
This is a major blunder on their part. One hopes they will fix it soon.

My main reason for using virtual-CD tools is so (a) I don't have to have mechanical wear and tear on my CD originals, and (b) I don't have to swap CDs in and out every time I want to play a game, I can just leave all the images I regularly use mounted all the time. Copying hasn't really been an issue, except making CD images of a few games like Halo and CivIII that are really, really intensely anal about wanting to see the original CD physically loaded in a physical drive, and frankly, I have no compunction about using no-CD hacks for that purpose.
