Not too very long ago, the NetBSD Project (http://www.netbsd.org/) changed its logo from one that depicted many BSD daemons raising a BSD flag on a pile of computer hardware (intended to evoke the famous picture of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi) to a simple flag, in deference to our japanese developers (of whom we have many). I don't know that anyone ever complained, but it was decided that a less martial logo was in order.
