This Just In: Spanish-American War Over; Film At 11

"This week, [Republican Senators] introduced a bill to repeal the Spanish-American War levy."  At issue: the 3% "luxury" tax on telecommunications introduced in 1898 to fund the Spanish-American War.

They really need to put "sunset" clauses in just about everything passed "for the duration of an emergency"

It'd be a start. The problem there, of course, is emergencies that they somehow just never get around to declaring "over".

They need to put a 5 year sunset on every law. If it's really important, they'll re-pass it.

If I could go back and add two things to the constitution, it'd be that, and outlawing riders.

I like that idea. Apart from anything else, re-passing all the important stuff at five-year intervals as they sunsetted would probably keep the bastards too busy to get up to nearly as much monkey business.
