I found myself with reason to give a quick primer on public-key cryptography and using it in email to a group of people I work with and have a need to have authenticated communications with, some of whom are not familiar with crypto concepts.  Since I have no idea whether there are those among my readership (or readers of readers) who don't know anything about public-key crypto and secure email, I have reproduced my primer here.

Sometime back, I apparently established a Blogger account.  I then forgot about it and never used it.  (I may have established it for the purposes of commenting; I don't remember for sure.)

Anyway, having recently rediscovered it, it occurred to me that the previous post would be a good one to go on it.  So I went to go "port" the post over there.

. . . Only to find that the presupplied CSS template has something in it that is inserting massive amounts of whitespace.  As in, there's about five lines worth of whitespace after every paragraph.  I've been through the CSS templace from top to bottom and end to end, backwards and forwards, and for the life of me I could not find where the extraneous whitespace was coming from and could not get rid of it.

After about half an hour of trying unsuccessfully to remove all the excess whitespace, I just decided it wasn't worth the trouble, and deleted the entire account.  So, bye bye Blogger.

CSS was supposed to simplify page design on the Web, not obfuscate it.
